NFL: 2025 Season Player Headshots

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran running back Ameer Abdullah, the team announced Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Abdullah, who turns 33 next month, is set to begin his 12th NFL season after being selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2015 draft. He suffered a rib injury during the San Francisco 49ers’ preseason opener against the Denver Broncos on August 9 last year, landing on season-ending injured reserve. He was later released via an injury settlement and subsequently signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

In a crowded Colts backfield last season, Abdullah recorded just 14 carries and 16 receptions for 159 total yards and a touchdown across 13 games (zero starts). He is expected to provide veteran leadership to Jacksonville’s young running back group, which includes Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. Additionally, his special teams experience adds value — Abdullah has accumulated 4,346 career yards on kick returns.

Over his 154 regular-season appearances (26 starts) with the Lions (2015–18), Minnesota Vikings (2018–21), Carolina Panthers (2021), Las Vegas Raiders (2022–24) and Colts, Abdullah has rushed for 2,054 yards and nine touchdowns, while catching 219 passes for 1,567 yards and 11 scores.

In other roster moves on Monday, the Jaguars re-signed offensive lineman Sal Wormley, who spent last season on the team’s practice squad as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State. Jacksonville also waived running back Ja’Quinden Jackson and placed undrafted free agent offensive lineman Jordan White on the reserve/retired list.
