José Mourinho has paid a heartfelt tribute to Silvino Louro, his former goalkeeping coach who passed away at the age of 67. The Portuguese manager shared seven photos of them together on social media, accompanied by an emotional message.
“Now I cry, but I will be able to laugh, laugh a lot, talk about you, and remember every moment. In the Mourinho family, you are loved and will live on. I will keep hearing you before every match saying, ‘Brother, it will be fine.’ Rest now, little hands,” the statement read.
Louro worked alongside Mourinho during his spells in London, Milan, Madrid, and Manchester, helping the team win 23 trophies, including two Champions League titles in 2004 and 2010. He also trained some of the greatest goalkeepers in history.
Louro passed away on March 19 following an illness. Several of his former pupils, including Iker Casillas, Petr Čech, and David de Gea, also shared photos in their Instagram stories to honor him. Vítor Baía posted a tribute with a message.
“Today our dear Silvino passed away… and it is very hard for me to accept this news. He was my colleague, my goalkeeping coach, and without a doubt one of the best—perhaps the best—I have ever worked with. But above all, he was a good man, loyal, generous, and someone I truly loved. I am sad, broken. Football has lost a great man, and I have lost someone I will never forget. Until always, Binyo. May you rest in peace, in this eternity of great people, alongside our friend Neno… and so many others who left too soon.”
Silvino Louro rests in peace, and the football world is eternally grateful for him.
