Joao Cancelo has etched his name into the history books after Barcelona clinched the La Liga title on Sunday night.
The full-back becomes the first footballer ever to lift trophies in four of Europe’s five elite domestic leagues, adding the Spanish crown to his already impressive collection.
Barcelona secured their second consecutive Spanish championship with a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres sealed the win at Camp Nou, sparking celebrations among the Catalans.
For Cancelo, this marks his first major trophy with Barcelona since returning for a second stint in January. The 31-year-old joined from Al-Hilal during the winter transfer window and has made 13 league appearances, scoring once.
With this latest triumph, Cancelo now owns seven league titles across his career. He won Serie A with Juventus in the 2018/19 season, claimed three Premier League titles with Manchester City, and added the Bundesliga during a loan spell at Bayern Munich in 2022/23. He also won the Portuguese Primeira Liga with his boyhood club Benfica, though that competition is not among the top five leagues. His achievement of conquering four different top-five divisions is unprecedented.
